Fused Switch Disconnector (YARP)

A fused switch disconnect enclosure (YARP) is a unit that combines a heavy-duty load break switch and fuses. This power device is designed for efficient control of electrical power flows, ensuring safety and stability within the electrical system.

In electrical systems, the fused switch disconnector (YARP) is used in main distribution boards (MDBs), sub-distribution panels, power and lighting panels, as well as control and automation panels. The system is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation, offering protection ratings of IP31 (indoor) and IP54 (outdoor).

Unlike non-fused disconnect switches, the fused switch disconnector is suitable for both infrequent and more frequent switching operations. It is designed for use in AC networks with operating voltages up to 660 V and a solidly grounded neutral.

Functional Features

The fused switch disconnector (YARP) performs the following functions:

  • Manual switching: Enables manual energizing and de-energizing of the cable line, which may be necessary for repair work, maintenance of the main system, and emergency situations.
  • Overcurrent & short-circuit protection: Protects the cable line from overloads and short-circuit currents. The fuse links melt when the permissible current is exceeded, breaking the circuit and protecting the cable from damage.
  • Streamlined switching operations: Simplifies cable connection and disconnection, switching between different power sources, and dividing the cable line into sections.
  • Current monitoring: Facilitates current measurement in the cable line when the device is equipped with an ammeter.

The YARP enclosure can be customized with additional auxiliary devices to meet specific application requirements.

YARP Enclosure Design

The YARP includes power distribution enclosures designed to connect and distribute electrical power to various loads. Their customization options allow the system to be tailored to specific power consumption needs.

The inclusion of an automatic transfer switch (ATS) ensures an uninterrupted power supply during transitions between power sources. This is critical for preventing power outages in critical systems.

Integrated fuses provide automated protection against overloads and short circuits, while a knife switch or rotary disconnect switch enables manual power isolation for maintenance and repair.

The YARP power enclosure is easy to install and simple to operate, helping ensure uninterrupted operation of the electrical system. The enclosure is typically made of steel, though some models are available in plastic.

How to Choose the Right YARP Enclosure

To select the correct YARP power enclosure, consider the following parameters:

  • Type of protection device: Select fuse links or circuit breakers depending on the operating conditions and required level of protection.
  • The YARP panel’s rated current must be at least equal to the rated current of the cable line.
  • Ingress Protection (IP) rating: Select an enclosure with an appropriate IP rating (IP21, IP31, or IP54) that matches your environmental operating conditions.
  • Number of poles: The number of poles (1-pole, 2-pole, 3-pole, or 4-pole) must correspond to the number of phases in the cable line.
