- cooling systems—to dissipate heat from the transformer and other components;

- fire suppression systems—to ensure fire safety within the substation.
All of these are housed within several compartments. Most commonly, these include:
- transformer compartment—houses the power transformer;
- switchgear compartment—houses the switchgear cells, switching devices, and protection and control systems;
- auxiliary equipment compartment—houses the heating, ventilation, lighting, and other auxiliary systems.
Packaged transformer substations (PTS) can be equipped with oil-filled transformers—which are more affordable and suitable for smaller facilities—or dry-type transformers, which offer greater environmental friendliness and a higher level of fire safety. Dry-type transformers are best suited for large-scale facilities.
Block-type systems are designed for both outdoor and indoor installation. All equipment is housed within block-type structures. Rated power ranges from 10 kVA to 2,500 kVA, with voltage ratings of up to 35 kV.
