Floor Distribution Panel

A floor distribution panel is a metal enclosure that houses electrical equipment responsible for distributing and metering electricity in apartments located on one or more floors. It plays a crucial role in ensuring an efficient and safe power supply in residential complexes and apartment buildings.

When operated under the specified conditions, the panel has a service life of at least 25 years.

Types And Their Features

Floor distribution panels vary in structure and size depending on the needs they are designed to meet. The more apartments a panel is designed to serve, the more complex the electricity distribution requirements and the larger the overall system.

For example, a floor distribution panel for 4 apartments is more compact and can easily fit into a small building’s entrance area and be flush-mounted directly in the wall. Models designed to serve more apartments are larger and require additional space in the lobby for installation—both for the panel itself and for additional components and equipment.

A floor distribution panel for 3 apartments has a separate meter installed inside for each apartment. Larger panels, on the other hand, use a central meter with a more complex metering system.

Larger distribution panels also provide more precise phase balancing to maintain a stable power supply. In the case of compact models, it is easier to assemble and replace equipment, as they are less complex and more accessible.

Functional Capabilities

Floor distribution panels perform a number of functions:

  • receiving and distributing electrical power;
  •     metering electricity consumption;
  •     protecting the power grid from overloads and short circuits using circuit breakers;
  • protecting against electric shock using RCDs (residual current devices).

Additional equipment can be installed in floor distribution panels to expand their functionality. For example, voltage relays will protect electrical appliances from voltage surges, contactors will control high-power electrical appliances, and timers will turn electrical appliances on and off at set times.

What Is Included In A Floor Distribution Panel?

Floor distribution panels, whether surface-mounted or stationary, can have various configurations. Typically, they include:

  • a main circuit breaker;
  •     an electricity meter;
  •     circuit breakers;
  • a residual current device (RCD).

The enclosure itself is made of metal (steel or aluminum), features an IP31-rating (protection against solid objects over 2.5 mm and vertically falling water drops), and a lockable door for security. It also has DIN rails for mounting modular equipment.

How To Choose The Right Panel?

Choosing the right panel for your home is key to ensuring the safety and reliability of your power supply. It’s important to entrust this process to professionals.
